Cybersecurity & Internet Safety

Every Sri Lankan student spends hours online every day — and most have never been taught how to protect themselves. Our 8-week Cybersecurity & Internet Safety course gives Grade 6–11 students the knowledge and habits to stay safe online, recognise scams, protect their accounts, and understand the basics of how internet attacks actually work.

The course is half awareness and half practical skills. Awareness topics include: spotting phishing emails and SMS scams (very common in Sri Lanka), recognising fake job offers, avoiding catfishing and online predators, protecting privacy on social media, dealing with cyberbullying, and the legal consequences of certain online behaviour under the Sri Lankan Computer Crimes Act.

Practical topics include: creating and managing strong passwords using a password manager, enabling two-factor authentication, recognising suspicious websites, safe public-WiFi habits, basic device security (screen lock, backups, updates), and understanding how the most common attacks — password stuffing, SIM swap, social engineering — actually work so students can recognise them.

We study real, recent Sri Lankan cybersecurity incidents as case studies. The course concludes with a personal security audit of the student's own digital life, reviewed one-on-one by the teacher. This is one of the most important courses we offer — we strongly recommend it for every student in our other programs.
