STEM Innovation & Engineering Projects

STEM Innovation & Engineering Projects is our broad STEM enrichment course for Sri Lankan Grade 7–12 students who love building things, solving problems and asking how does this work. Across 12 weeks, students complete four substantial engineering builds that combine electronics, mechanics, programming and design thinking.

Each project teaches a different STEM skill: an automated plant-watering system (sensors and Arduino — water your home garden, perfect for Sri Lanka's climate); a 3D-printed mechanical hand with movable fingers (mechanical design and 3D-printing fundamentals); a solar-powered phone charger (renewable energy and circuit design); and a final team innovation project where small student teams identify a real Sri Lankan problem and build a working prototype to solve it.

We teach the engineering design process — defining a problem, sketching solutions, prototyping, testing, iterating — which is exactly what's needed for school science fairs (Young Scientists Association, ASMP, NIE competitions) and for engineering university entrance interviews. Each team presents their final project to a panel of working Sri Lankan engineers as a demo day.

The course fee includes all components delivered to your home (sensors, motors, micro:bit or Arduino, basic 3D-print credits). Past student innovations have included automatic mosquito-repellent dispensers, water-quality monitors for home wells, and elderly-care fall-detection wristbands. Many have gone on to win school and zonal science competitions.
