About this course

Scratch is the world's friendliest first programming language — and our 10-week Scratch Coding for Kids is the perfect first computing course for Sri Lankan children in Grades 2–5. Using MIT's free Scratch platform, young learners create real interactive games, animated stories and digital art while learning the fundamentals of computational thinking.

Classes run in very small groups (maximum 6 children per teacher) with lots of guided creation time, group sharing, and gentle remix challenges to encourage creativity. Children learn sequencing, loops, conditions, events, broadcasts and variables — all wrapped in colour-coded drag-and-drop blocks designed for young hands and minds.

Across the course, every child builds six original Scratch projects: an animated story about their favourite Sri Lankan place or festival, a catch-the-fruit arcade game, a maze adventure, a quiz game testing classmates on school subjects, a music-making instrument, and a final showcase game of their own design.

We focus equally on confidence: presenting work to peers in English, debugging calmly when things don't work, planning a project from scratch, and collaborating with classmates. Parents receive a weekly recap email and full class recordings. Children need only a laptop or desktop with internet — Scratch runs free in any modern browser, no installs.
