The RC522 is a low-cost 13.56MHz RFID reader/writer for access control, identification and automation projects. It reads and writes MIFARE tags over SPI (or I2C/UART) at up to 5cm and comes complete with a card and key fob, so you can start building contactless projects on Arduino or Raspberry Pi right away.
